Saturday Workout: 6 horrible miles

 

I should probably change my name to Pink Walker after my “run” this morning.  Of course I planned on getting up around 8 and getting out the door by 8:30 to beat the summer heat. I didn’t get outside until almost 10:00 and it was already over 80 degrees. I’ve been on the treadmill for the last few weeks, so I should have predicted that this would happen.
I started off hoping to do 6-7 miles and went out for my usual 6 mile loop with hopes of adding on at the end.  This loop is good for me because it is 3 miles out 3 miles back, so I end up almost always doing the full 6 miles.  About 2 miles into it, I knew it wasn’t going to be pretty.  I even wore a baseball hat and carried my Camelbak hand-held water bottle to stay cool. I ended up running .75 of miles 3 and 4 and walking the last .25 both times. By then I was so annoyed I walked ALL of mile 5. I NEVER do this! I was just mad the whole time because I was hot and didn’t feel like running.  I saw a runner just as my Garmin hit 5 miles, so I sucked it up and ran for the last one.

 

I almost wore my heart rate monitor for this run, but decided not to wear it this morning.  I really haven’t worn it since the marathon in May and I know it would have been through the roof today. (which would have annoyed me more)

To make myself feel better, I took a bath after my run. A WARM bath! How many times did I jump into a bathtub full of icy cold water after my long runs in March-April preparing for the Pittsburgh Marathon?! Wayyy too many and today felt fantastic getting into comfortable water.

Have you ever heard of Lush Cosmetics??  I heard about this company when I was in college and it was being featured on the Style Network.  I took a vacation to California with my parents and found a store and fell in love.  I don’t have any stores really close to me, but whenever I am at one I like to stock up on bath bombs and their solid shampoo. Really great stuff and minimal packaging!

My delicious sushi from last night’s dinner. I didn’t think ordering 2 rolls for myself was that much but I was stuffed. Like uncomfortable, gotta put the sweatpants on when you get home kind of full. It was worth it.

  1. Sounds like my run yesterday. It’s brutal! I didn’t recover from my run until late afternoon :(

    But 6 miles is 6 miles!!! You got out there which is much more than lots of people do everyday!

    • Yeah, I just felt like they were junk miles and it makes me worried to start a plan in a week or two where I’ll have to run outside all the time again! I’ve been spoiled on the TM.

  2. Yeah, so I’m ADDICTED to Lush! I never really find too many people in person who have either a) heard of it or b) are madly in love with it as much as I am. So, when I saw that bath bomb, I immediately knew it was lush!

  3. Pink Walker. :-( Ohh how sad! I probably kept you up from not posting fast enough, lol! But I hear you, it’s been soooooo hot outside. I can’t handle it either! OMG that sushi. AMAAAAAZING. And to think, the hubby was like, “Let’s go get sushi today” and I said, “No, I’m going to bake tilapia.” Blah. I want sushi now!

  4. I hate those days when you have workouts that don’t go well. I know exactly how you feel, but if you think it through, it doesn’t make sense to feel bad about your run! While probably 95% of the people you know were inside sitting on their butts, you tackled 6 excruciating miles (and survived to tell the tale!)
    You are one tough cookie.

  5. I LOVE lush – my favourite product from them right now is the “silky underwear powder” It smells so good – and…if you are having a “i don’t want to shower” day, it works really well on your hair (awkward if I’m the only one who puts powder in their hair on days I don’t want to shower) ha!

    Anyways. about your run – you still finished!! That is an accomplishment in itself. Don’t be too hard on yourself m’dear.

    • Not weird at all! I use dry shampoo powder for my hair ALL THE TIME :) I had that Silky Underwear Powder years ago from Lush and I remember it smelling soooo good!

  6. I found your blog via myfitspiration and I just wanted to say that I’d love to be able to do 6 miles in an hour. I’ve been running on the treadmill a lot lately as well and the heat zaps me after my first mile. Props to you for getting out and there and doing the entire 6!

    • Thank you! I was just so discouraged because I ran my first full marathon in May and I was running so much in the winter/spring and such long distances. I have to remember that it is tough in the heat!!

  7. When I have runs like that I just remind myself that running isn’t easy – or everyone would do it! You wouldn’t be a true pink runner if you didn’t occasionally have pink walker moments :)

  8. I hate an awful run, it stinks how sometimes it just HAPPENS and there’s really nothing you can do about it! :( I have a feeling mine is going to be pretty bad tonight after a weekend of not so healthiness! At least you still got a good workout in. :)
