Sweaty Week

Wednesday Workout: this morning-3 mile run on the treadmill (28:58 with 1 min. walking)  – making up “Tuesday’s run” and 2 faster miles tonight for my “Weds. run” outside

 


 

As you can see, I skipped my Tuesday run (3 miles) after BodyPump last night and did it this morning! My chest is so sore from BodyPump because I tried to go higher on the weights and had to take some off half way through the track. I thought I could handle it, but I guess not!! I DID go up to the BIG weights for squats!! I was so excited to get the big 5 kg weights for that track!

If you are new to my blog, I am a music teacher and this week I help teach the high school’s marching band.  We have two full weeks of camp: this week is 9:00-4:00 and next week is 8:00-6:00. I spend almost all day outside teaching the kids how to march with my friend Kim.  We have been good about sunscreen, but it is impossible not to finish the day as a sweaty mess.  We have been breaking the kids up into groups and working with different sections during the day.  We have the kids always start with stretches and exercises (calf raises, jumping jacks, push ups, **planks!!** – new this year!)  and Kim and I make sure to do them too! After doing these exercises four different times and spending the rest of the day outside, I was gross.

After camp yesterday, I rushed to my gym to make a 4:30 BodyPump class.  It was strangely uncrowded, but I enjoyed the extra room.  I’m really enjoying the new Pump release and almost have all the moves memorized :) When I left the room and headed towards the treadmills, I saw that they were super crowded. I was exhausted and starving and decided to go home.  I thought there might be a chance that I would run on the treadmill at home, but knew it probably wasn’t going to happen. So I decided to double up and do both training runs today!

Last night I was in a cooking mood because I was so hungry and made the Barefoot Contessa’s Guacamole Salad that I made a few weeks ago. I’m taking it for lunch today along with lots of gum to chew after wards to get rid of the onion breath! I love the colors of this salad and think it tastes a lot like Chipotle and would be good in a burrito!

I also stopped at the grocery store after Pump because I had no food and picked up some new items to try …

The cream cheese is in a lot of dessert recipes… I am scared of making my own tofu and tempeh.  I see tempeh on a bunch of blogs, so it must be pretty good, right? It has a crazy amount of protein and fiber!

I did try to make her chocolate chip cookies with sea salt tonight…

Along with my favorite chocolate coconut milk dairy free “ice cream” by So Delicious that doesn’t hurt my stomach :)  The cookies were good but I only had whole wheat flour so I think they would have been better with some regular flour and more sea salt on the top! The salt tasted so good on them!

**Thank you** for all the nice comments on my “flirting with veganism” post yesterday! I was kinda worried about writing it because I didn’t want to get unfriendly feedback… but of course bloggers are amazing and I loved hearing what you guys do and do not eat!

Something I was thinking about today, do you have any foods that you will not eat because you think they are so unhealthy they just aren’t worth it? Mine would have to be DONUTS! I have this thing against donuts and in my mind I think they are like the worst thing you can eat. Are they really that different than a piece or two of cake? Probably not, but I won’t eat them! I’d rather eat brownies :)   (my favoriteeeee)

  1. Most doughnuts in the store are fried, which is why I bought a mini doughnut pan and bake my own! They were a huge hit at work. :) Looking forward to your giveaway! I’m hosting my first one right now! Only 1 person has entered so far, lol.

  2. That salad looks amazing Holly! And I agree, that would be awesome in a burrito – just had Chipotle yesterday for lunch, and it was everything I hoped for and more!!! I REFUSE to eat cotton candy or funnel cakes. The idea of the fried dough topped with powdered sugar is just really unappealing to me. In addition, my woes about cotton candy are pretty much self explanatory…haha.

  3. Your salad is making me want Chipolte for lunch today :) I refuse to eat baked goods that aren’t homemade. I just don’t like the way they taste and they are a waste of calories. I would much rather save those calories for a cookie I made.

  4. I refuse to eat chitterlings {something apparently black people are supposed to like but I didn’t get the memo} and liver. Those gross me out and would come right back up, so I don’t even attempt them! I’m also pretty much anti-fried stuff. Otherwise, I eat pretty well–if I did eat something I deem “bad” like cake, donuts or beer, I’d just work it off. :-)

    i am so proud of you for upping your weights in bodypump. i always tell my class to at least try heavier weights…they can always take it off if they need!

  6. Way to fit your training run in there! Sounds like you are SUPER busy – I can’t imagine how you manage to pack work, training and blogging all in there! That avocado mix looks so yummy…I might try that one too!

    I stay away from all soda. I cave into Diet Coke RARELY. but its just a waste of calories to me!

  7. I have got to make this salad. It looked amazing the first time you posted about it and now it’s going to happen.

    I won’t eat fries at all ever, just not worth it for me.

  8. I have a younger sister whose band camp finishes up this week. She is exhausted from so many hours on her feet and moving around, but so excited to be done for the summer. I imagine you will probably feel the same around this time next week. :)

  9. GREAT RUN!!! Okay, that is AWESOME that you have your music students do stretching and EXERCISE!! That made my day! Girl, you are hardcore to be outside all day….I would melt. LOVE PUMP and I tried increasing my chest weight too….it hurts BAD right now!

    • Haha! The band kids secretly love that I make them do extra exercises to “warm up” before they march around all day :) My arm pits were so sore from the day I tried to increase my chest weight!!
