18 Hot Miles

Sunday: 18 miles (3:26:18)

I don’t mean to complain… because I know all those Boston marathoners today were just roasting, but it was hot for my 18 miler yesterday.  I was checking on my girl Kristy in between lessons all day to make sure she was still going at Boston today!

I definitely did not run with that jacket! I wore my usual race tank and shorts that have tons of pockets and later regretted the compression sleeves because they were warm too.  Amy and I didn’t start our run until 11:30 and at first it wasn’t so bad, but later the heat and sun were pretty intense.  I put sunscreen on my nose thinking I might get sunglass tan, but didn’t realize the sun was beating down on my shoulders so bad for the last few hours and they are very red today.  Even though my shoulders are burnt today, my legs feel surprisingly fantastic! I guess the slower pace and tons of extra walking we did yesterday in the heat prevented my legs from getting sore.  Even though our run took us an extra 25 minutes or so, we finished it!

I’ve been loving these Luna protein bars (chocolate PB) after my long runs.

I was prepared to not throw up after my run so I went with gatorade during the first half of my run and it was the best decision ever.  I have probably been dehydrated the past few long runs and low on sodium.  I’m guessing that is why I’ve been getting so sick after the last few long runs! The only thing that was gross was drinking warm water and trying to eat warm GU’s late in the run when it was over 80 degrees.  I had 2 1/2 vanilla GU’s and they stayed down! Woo hoo! I’m going to stick with GU for the marathon because I think it is easier on my stomach.

Saturday, I went to my friend Hannah’s baby shower and her Mom had everything decorated with ideas from Pinterest :)

I know, I need to chill on the self-tanner. My face looks like an oompa loompa.  I curled Hannah’s hair before the party and thought she looked so great!

Loveddd the fruit tray her Mom put together!

Off to finish up a draft for my final graduate paper/thesis tonight!  I have another rough draft due tonight at midnight and then the final submission is in two weeks!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to have a break from grad classes :)
