Last Day at the Beach

Workout: 4 mile run: 36 min, 14 sec (9:03 pace)

mile 1- 9:17, mile 2-9:04, mile 3-9:03, (took a quick walk break) then mile 4-8:48 :)

I was VERY happy with my run this morning! Colby was nice enough to run with me again and I really pushed myself at the end. The treadmill is definitely helping me hold a faster pace outside and I am going to keep using it to help my speed. It wasn’t as sunny this morning, but it was still crazy humid. I am hoping to keep this up and hopefully hold this pace for a 5 miler. I know this might not seem that great to many of you, but for me it is really great! I was stuck in such a “pace rut” during the marathon training and after that I need to shock my system. It hasn’t been my goal for a long time to change my pace because I stuck with 9:40-9:50 for the marathon and trained at that pace for nearly all of my runs.

Really sweaty and proud of my run this morning :) Wearing my super soft 26.2 t shirt from the Pittsburgh Marathon Expo!

Today was our last day at the beach! I am not looking forward to cleaning and packing tonight. The weather was perfect today!! We got out there a little earlier today so it wasn’t so hot and we could have stayed out all day.  I felt the sun getting to my skin and knew it was time to go inside!

My pink chair in the middle of the uncrowded beach today

Happy on the beach :) My BIC band got quite the workout this week! I wore it almost everyday at the beach and when I ran!

Monday Workout: Treadmill walk/run: 3 miles and Ab class/ BodyPump class!

I walked 1 minute, then ran 2.75 miles starting at a 6.3 mph pace then raising it every .25 mile until I reached 7.2 mph! Then I brought it back down and walked the last .25 :)

I usually never push myself that hard on a treadmill getting over 7 mph, but I am totally capable of doing it. I just need to force myself and get over the mental game of the treadmill mph or the min/mile pace my Garmin says… I know if I push myself and my speed this summer in the heat (and on the treadmill when I’m a baby about the heat!) I will be so much faster in the Fall when the temperatures drop! It happened last year when I was running in the Summer and then got faster in the Fall. I have to realize that I have improved so much in a year. Last summer I was always running over a 10:00 min/mile pace and then finally got into the 9′s in the Fall. That was a huge deal for me! I can’t wait to consistently be in the 8′s! (maybe… someday…)

The weather has been crazy hot at Myrtle Beach, but we are enjoying the beach so much.  This morning we decided to go to the beach early so it wouldn’t be 100 degrees. We were on the beach around 9:30 and I loaded on the sunscreen.

My beach essentials today!

The first day we went to the beach we drove to the boardwalk area and laid out in that area.  It was kinda crowded and difficult to park, so we tried a different spot the past two days.  We went farther away from the boardwalk and parked in the public beach access area near beautiful houses.  The beach was not crowded at all and so much easier to get to in the morning!

Nice pic of the beach with Colby eating chips in the corner :)

We left the beach around 12:30 and went to the pool near our condo to cool off… Colby tried to teach me to swim in hopes of making me a triathlete :) I don’t think I would like to wear a swim cap, but you never know! On the way to the pool we almost got attacked by 2 HUGE LIZARDS!!!!! Ok, maybe they were two tiny and kinda cute lizards that ran away from us when we almost stepped on them.  When you are used to seeing fuzzy bunnies and squirrels in PA, lizards always surprise me!

Last night Colby and I went to the Mellow Mushroom Pizza Restaurant because I always see Jen @ Peanut Butter Runner eat there and it looks so good! I had the “Kosmic Karma” pizza and it was SO GOOD!!!! I got the big size so I could take it home and eat it for leftovers today!! Thanks Jen for recommending this pizza!!!

Sunday Workout: Walk/Run 3.5 miles

Garmin miles- mile 1: 10:03, mile 2: 9:22, .5: 8:16 / TM: 1 mile run/walk (12 minutes) (pretty bad, huh?!)

Colby and I attempted to run outside this morning before going to the beach. It was already over 80 degrees and I’m not sure what we were thinking. I have been running inside lately and this was a shock to the system!  After 2 miles, we walked and went inside the pool house to the treadmills.  Next time, we will either run earlier/later or on the treadmill! I’m just happy to get in 3.5 miles on vacation and hoping to do more tomorrow. My legs felt great and my hamstrings are feeling so much better today from stretching.

I took my old camera running this morning, but realized I don’t have my cord to upload the pictures to my computer!  There were just nice pictures of the golf course and the path we were running!

Yesterday, we went to the beach near the boardwalk. It was SO hot so I tried to stay under my pink umbrella to keep cool.  We came back and went to the pool near our condo and cooled off.

We went to dinner last night at Broadway at the Beach and walked around a lot! I’m guessing we walked 2 miles around the huge area of shops and restaurants.

It is really nice there and Colby was even a good sport and walked into shops with me.  I found one with TOMS shoes that I could actually try on in-person instead of looking online.  I saw my black wedges that are on their way to my house right now and really liked them. Anyone have TOMS? Any favorites? Not all of them looked great … but I think they are comfortable!

Bon Voyage!

Thursday Workout: 3 mile run, 1 mile walk, BodyPump class

Yesterday I taught music lessons at school from 9:00-3:00.  Lots and lots of 10-12 year old violins and cellos!  I was excited that my friend Julie would be at school and we could go to lunch together!!  There is an orchard/deli close to our school so we ordered sandwiches :)

I got a massive tuna salad flatbread for lunch.  It was HUGE and I could only eat half of it!

Julie posing with her turkey panini like a good friend.  She is secretly an obsessed blog reader like the rest of us!

After music lessons, I went home and changed into running clothes and ran OUTSIDE (for the first time in a looonnng time).  The weather was decent (80 degrees, cloudy) so I thought I would push myself. I ran without music/ipod… sometimes when you hear children play instruments all day long, you need some silence!

My Garmin statssssss

I was pretty happy with my run, especially the negative splits! My legs felt really tired, so I decided to walk the last mile and let them recover before BodyPump.  Before I drove to the gym I had to have one of my favorite snacks to hold me over…

Has anyone had the PB cookie Luna bar?? IT’S SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!

Seriously tired, sweaty and smelly after BodyPump. These 2 workout days are killlllling me!

When I got home I ate a huge amount of homemade pizza.  I probably burned about 700-800 calories from running and pump, so I deserved it!

Colby is very happy to eat his big pizza :)

I am typing this post Thursday night while I wait for my laundry to finish in the dryer.  We are I am packing for the beach right now and I am ready for bed. I HATE when I wait until the last minute to pack for a trip!  Originally we thought we were leaving early Saturday morning to drive to Myrtle Beach, SC but the place we are renting is open Friday so we are allowed to go down a day early!  The only problem with that is I was planning on doing wash and packing on Friday… Colby already packed and I will end up throwing all of my clothes into a giant suitcase.  Yes, I will over-pack… and yes my foam roller is going on vacation with us :)   I found out there is a Gold’s Gym 6 miles from the place we are staying, so I can use my membership there and take BodyPump!! I have free guest passes, so I am going to take Colby to a pump/spin class while we are there.  Who cares if he is the only guy in the class when we are in a different state!

10+ hour car ride on Friday… think I will drive Colby crazy??

(Hoping we have internet at the beach… or else I will be drinking some serious Starbucks with my laptop!)
