Getting Ready For DC

Things have been busy the past few weeks.  I’m so ready for summer and nice weather!  A few weeks ago, I was supposed to run 10 miles on the weekend to prepare for the Nike Women’s Half in DC – April 27.  It rained all weekend, so I ran after work on a Monday with Amy.  Looking back at the stats now, it doesn’t look that bad – but it was a bad run for me.  I had high hopes of really pushing my pace and I got so tired.  The wind didn’t help and it is tough doing a long run in the afternoon.  After that 10 miler, I was having a hard time feeling motivated for the race.  Since I PR-ed last year, I really want to again on the same course.

I started feeling better the next week and had a few good short runs.  The one above made me really happy.  Negative splits after school and it was windy.

This past weekend, I decided to change my training schedule.  I ran my 12 miler a week early, so I can back down this weekend with 8.  I want to go to the race with fresh legs and I’m going to have a hard time fitting in any long run this weekend with Easter.  I’m still teaching BODYPUMP over the next two weeks, so I need to take it easy.  My gym isn’t launching BODYPUMP 89 until May 28, but I have it memorized and ready to go.  I listened to the music two full times while I ran my 12 miler and did the choreography in my head.  That will make any long run go a little faster!  I really like 89 and the music has grown on me so much.

Besides all of that…

Baby Bella got her first hair cut!!  She did great job and weighed in at 4 lbs at the vet this past weekend.  She is almost 5 months old (20 weeks today).

She can finally jump up and down off the couch and chairs.  I about had a heart attack when I looked over and saw her laying on the top of the couch like a cat!! We are so scared of her falling/jumping off the sides or back of the couch so we always keep our eyes on her!!  You can see her playpen in the “piano” room.  She has taken over our house! :)

IMG_2588She LOVES the warmer weather and we spent so much time outside this past weekend.  It was 80 degrees on Sunday!  She loves laying in the grass with a good stick :)

Another Snow Day

photo 1

So it is very snowy in PA today and we are stuck inside!  Another snow day for teachers and kids and it doesn’t look good for tomorrow.  I started feeling kinda sick last Thursday and by Saturday I knew I had a cold.  I woke up Sunday and felt horrible!! I’m lucky we had off Monday for MLK and today with snow.  I’ve been taking it very easy with exercise and tonight was the first time I really did something.

This morning I tried to sleep in, but couldn’t.  I made some protein pancakes for breakfast and laid on the couch a lot!

Around 4:00 I started feeling restless and needed to work out.  I was feeling better so I decided to try to run.  I am starting a half marathon training plan February 3, so I am trying to run shorter 2-3 mile runs more often until I start training.

I need to make sure I have BODYPUMP 88 down for this week because we launch on Saturday.  I have it pretty much down, but I wanted to watch the DVD again.  Our gym has gotten a little behind on launches, but I don’t mind.  I ran on the tracks I didn’t want to do and did tracks 3-chest, 5-triceps, 7-lunges and 8-shoulders.  I feel like I have to keep up with chest and tricep tracks or else I loose it and get really sore if I only teach one time a week.  I think the shoulders are crazy hard in this release!

I got 3 miles done on the treadmill over the course of watching and doing parts of the BP dvd.  I finished by doing the Tone It Up Love Your Abs video below two times.  I was tired!

I’m not sure what I want to make for dinner yet because nothing has really sounded good to me since I’m sick.  I made an orange vanilla smoothie before I took a shower and it was great!  1 large orange, 1 scoop vanilla protein, vanilla almond milk and ice!

Busy Concert Week

Hello!! It has been especially cold and snowy here in Pennsylvania this December!  The little running I’ve been doing has all been on a treadmill inside!  I’ve been doing lots of BODYPUMP, CXWORX and yoga inside too!

My workouts this past week were all inside because it snowed way too much.  We were off school on Tuesday and had delays on two of the other days.  My hamstrings have been sore, so I’ve tried to include yoga and stretching as much as possible.  Today I decided to take it easy and call it an “off” day.  I went Christmas shopping this morning and I am almost done!! Woo hoo!

I had one concert the other week for school and have three more this week.  Since I am letting my hair grow out (I cut it above my shoulders last Thanksgiving) I am happy to be in the medium-length stage and I’ve been curling it more often.  I have a 1-inch Hot Tools Gold curling iron that I love, but I have been wanting a bigger size for loose curls.  I saw that Ulta has the 1 and 1/2 inch iron on sale, so I braved the weather and bought it.  I played with it yesterday and it is great!  I wish I would have bought it earlier.

My new concert dress I wore the other week :)  I found it at a boutique in Philly.  Please ignore the random chairs in my room after the concert.  I used my 1 inch curling iron for my hair.

Thanksgiving Break

I am so thankful for this Thanksgiving break!!  The Tangled gif above is how happy I was to be home for a few days :)  I spent time with family, exercised my butt off and relaxed!  Colby and I have been trying to get our Christmas shopping done and we are almost there!  To help his Mom out for Thanksgiving, I made Ina’s Smashed Sweet Potatoes and substituted almond milk for the heavy cream and Earth Balance for the butter.  I roasted the potatoes the day before and mashed them with a potato masher.  Even though it takes over an hour to roast the sweet potatoes, the rest is so easy and they taste amazing.

I also made the Tone It Up Green Bean Casserole to take for dinner.  I like this recipe because it doesn’t use cream of mushroom soup (not so nice for my lactose-hating stomach).  I did a few changes… I blended more of the mushrooms with the liquid and added a little corn starch to get it thicker.  I also added some panko to the top and put the casserole under the broiler at the very end for about a minute to get it crispy.  Very good, but the leftovers got a little liquid-y.  More about TIU in another post…

I was an exercise machine this past week because I had no excuses!!

Saturday: 1.25 run on TM, 25 min bike and BODYPUMP -all but squats -exhausted and burned 760 calories

Sunday: 45 min bike, 1 mile walk on TM, abs and lots of stretching - ate a HUGE brunch with family, came home and took a food nap then woke up and did this and burned 502 calories :)

Not much running going on, but it is SO COLD!!!!! I am waiting on new Under Armour tights to come in the mail because my old ones are completely ripped and my others are a different brand and not warm enough.  I had a gift card from Under Armour to buy these tights and I got it last year when I emailed them angry about them always ripping.  They are so expensive, they should last!! I take good care of them!  I was annoyed with them for awhile, so I didn’t order the new ones but I did the other day.  My legs are cold trying to run outside and these were practically free so I went for it.

Also, I’m obsessed with my new bike and I haven’t even been outside with it yet!! I have it on Colby’s bike trainer in the basement.  Here are my legs spinning away Thanksgiving morning watching the parade.  It was awesome!! I feel like I have a new piece of cardio equipment in our home gym and I am so excited for warmer weather in the spring so I can ride outside!  I love it, I love it, I love it!  After riding 4x this week and getting up to 45 minutes, I was sore last night.  I’m going to take a break from it today but I really want to ride it!

I have another post ready to go for tomorrow about my love for the Tone It Up girls :)  Maybe I’ll be able to post more than once a month for December!! I go back to school tomorrow and start up my concert season.  I have lots of dress rehearsals, concerts and assemblies for my music students this month.  Looking forward to the holidays!
