Friday Workout: 50 minute Yoga DVD

I stopped at Target after school today to pick up shampoo and stuff.  I love Target and always have to walk around the clothes, magazines and DVD aisles.  When I walked past the workout DVDs, I saw Bethenny Frankel’s “Skinnygirl Workout”. I’ve never been a big fan of the “Real Housewives” shows, but I’ve watched Bethenny’s show a few times. I also watched her E! True Hollywood story on Monday when I was home sick.

The DVD can be split up into 3 separate workouts (15, 20 and 15 minutes each) in the menu, but I decided to do the entire workout (50 minutes). The workout is led by New York City instructor, Mike McArdle and I really liked his style.  I liked that Bethenny makes you feel great for even fitting in a short workout and she even takes breaks during some more difficult poses. I didn’t like that she tried to explain what muscles were being used for every pose. It felt like she was trying to sell the workout to you by reminding you what muscles you use for everything.  It did introduce a few new poses to me and I felt like it was a nice change from some other videos I’ve been using for the past few months.  I think I would definitely do this DVD again, especially if I want to fit in a quick workout/stretch on a day I don’t run.

Here is a clip of the beginning of the workout.

After yoga, I was hungry and there wasn’t much in my kitchen. I found a can of chick peas and knew I could make Mama Pea’s Chick Pea and Dumplings for dinner. I made this recipe before and it turned out even better this time! I used all whole wheat flour before and it was much better with the mix tonight. I also made my dumplings smaller and they cooked so much faster.

What was your Friday Workout? Do you have a long run planned for tomorrow?

I am hoping to run 11-12 tomorrow for my final long run before the 1/2 marathon. I will back down next weekend and then the race is October 16. I have NO idea how tomorrow will go but I’m not stressing :)

Fitness Friday: Hard Workouts

Thursday Workout: 3.5 miles: 37 min 14 sec, BODYPUMP!!!!

Friday Workout: TBA!

I got to go to a BodyPump class last night!!!!! I couldn’t make any other classes this week and it had been over a week since my last class! I planned on running 3-4 right after school at a nearby park and I got 3.5 miles in before going straight to BodyPump!

Look at those 8’s! Well, 8:54 and 8:47 but still fast for me. I haven’t ran outside since Sunday and had a sudden burst of energy when I started my run. I decided to really push myself and run hard for the first 2 miles. After I finished 2 miles, I walked for .25 trying to catch my breath then ran comfortably for the rest of mile 3. Then I walked half a mile to finish up the run so I could let my legs relax before BodyPump!

BODYPUMP!!!!! It kicked my butt! I forgot how hard it is when you’ve taken time off! The squat and shoulder track killed me and I was sweating up a storm. As soon as my favorite instructor put the music on in the beginning of class I instantly got excited. I LOVE this class so much. Have I mentioned how much I love BodyPump? :)  I probably won’t love it so much Friday when I’m sore from running hard and going to class. ( I wrote this post last night!)

After class I was so tired and hungry and decided to stop at the grocery store across the street for a treat. I thought I deserved it!

My favorite two flavors of Kombucha!!!! I thought I deserved a treat so I picked up a few :)

I feel like I really pushed myself Thursday night by running hard and going to BodyPump after taking time off from it. I was really proud that I could do these two workouts after such a longgggg week at work! I’m ready for some sleep this weekend!!

What workouts push you the most?

Fitness Friday!!

Friday Workout: 5 mile run on treadmill

I started and finished this run with a 1/2 mile walk, so I ended up walking 1 full mile and running 4. I think I ran the 4 miles in about 37 minutes (9:15 ish pace)

My secret to making a treadmill run go by faster is changing the speed!! I tried to change my pace every .25 miles and this works so well for me. Most of my miles were a mix 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, and 6.6 mph. I peaked at 6.7 mph at the end before cooling down.

I know many of you probably hate the treadmill but I was more than happy to get on it this morning when it was already 90 degrees at 8:00 AM! It was over a 100 degrees here today :(

Last night, Colby and I drove his Mom to Harrisburg for a meeting and we went out to dinner at a restaurant called “Spice”.  My friend Matt introduced this restaurant to me :)

Yum! I had chicken and tortellini salad with a side of sweet potato fries and Colby had a pesto shrimp pasta dish!

Always happy to pose with his food for me :)

I was really happy to get my TOMS shoes in the mail today! My Mom had ordered these for me last Christmas and they were a 1/2 size too small so I had to send them back. They are really soft inside and seem like they will be comfortable!

For dinner tonight, I had ground turkey in the fridge I needed to use. The electric went out around 5:00 after a crazy thunderstorm and didn’t come back on until almost 7:00. I had to wait to make dinner (and post this!) so I played on my iPhone and found a recipe for turkey/black bean burgers.

Paula Deen’s Turkey Black Bean Burgers with Corny Salsa

My version of the burger. This recipe is super easy, especially when you skip the salsa like I did and just throw the ingredients into a bowl without measuring!

Colby and I are a little bummed out for our weekend right now. We had plans to go to a soccer game in Philly tomorrow night with a friend, but it didn’t work out last minute. So we thought maybe we would go to the beach for a day and just stay one night. All the hotels are booked in MD and DE and have 2 night minimum.  This is one of my last free weekends of the summer because I teach marching band camp for the first two full weeks of August and have other things going on…

I’m thinking of persuading him to use my guest pass for Gold’s and go to BodyPump with me at 8:30 am tomorrow…. think he will go for it?? It’s in air conditioning… isn’t that reason enough to go??

What was your Friday workout????

Bike Ride and Fitness Friday!

Friday Workout: Bike ride: 21.75 miles/ 1 hr 52 min

You remember my little girl purple mountain bike, don’t you?? My legs feel great after the long ride with Daddy, but my hinney is a little sore! We road on a “rail trail” which is a gravel path that is along old railroad tracks.  It’s really beautiful and the weather was great!

Fitness Friday!!

Workouts I am currently lovingggg…

YogaDownload: Yoga Sculpt #1 45 minute class

I did the full 45 minute class last night and it was so tough. It uses hand weights and really had me sweating!

I’m glad I purchased the 45 minute class as a “download” so I can keep it on my computer forever and use it again!

* I am loving planks and can do them for 2 minutes now!! Woo hoo! I love how many variations there are to the standard plank and maybe that will be my next friday post!

* I am loving my favorite ab track from BodyPump! I love the song and the planks at the end! Give it a try with this video and see how you do!

Then there is this little lady…

I can’t wait to try Cassey @ Blogilates 18 minute POP Pilates video: Abominable Abdominals! I watched most of this and it looks tough! I hope I can try all of her videos because she is so gorgeous and so fit! Remember, I’m bringing pilates back into my life!

What was your workout today??
