Ironman Syracuse 70.3

We are in Syracuse, NY for Colby’s half Ironman tomorrow!  Colby is racing a full Ironman (Lake Placid) at the end of July.  He was able to secure a spot for Lake Placid, if he signed up for Syracuse too.  He wants to stay comfortable tomorrow and not go full out.  He can’t afford to take time off for major recovery when he has such a big race coming up soon!

After the expo and race packet pick-up, we headed back to our hotel.  We are staying at the same hotel as my friend Amy and her husband Matt (also racing).  I was supposed to run 7 miles today, but I decided to hold off until early Monday morning when it is a little cooler outside.  I convinced Amy to let me practice CXWORX 15 on her in the hotel gym.  I love that CXWORX doesn’t require much equipment (yoga mat, resistance bands, a few weights). Even though I have been practicing the exact same workout over and over, it is still so hard!  30 minutes and you are drenched in sweat and exhausted.  Besides your core, your shoulders, back, legs and glutes are just on fire!!

After CXWORX, I hung around in the hotel room on my computer while Colby napped.  I searched #NOLA2014 on Facebook and Instagram to see all the amazing stuff Les Mills is doing in New Orleans today.  NOLA is a huge conference event going on this weekend, and I’m super jealous I’m not there!  I can’t wait to go to a huge Les Mills event sometime in the future!  All the videos people post make it look like a rock concert!  I also purchased a few new Les Mills clothing items on the Reebok website today.  I already bought the capris for my CXWORX training and loved them!

Lake Placid Trip

We just got back from a quick trip to Lake Placid, NY this weekend!  Colby is training for the Ironman, which is July 27.  My friend Amy and her husband went with us, since Matt is training for the Ironman too.  The guys wanted to ride the bike course (112 miles) this weekend.

While the guys rode their bikes, Amy and I ran around Mirror Lake (where the swim is for the race).  Amy is running a marathon this Sunday (!) so she wanted to go easy and run 8 miles.  We ran 7 and then walked the last mile.  We stopped and took pictures and didn’t worry about the time.

I’ve actually been running a lot this week.  I’ll have to post more about that later, but I’ve been getting up before work and running outside.  This is huge for me!

Colby stuck his feet into the freezing cold lake!  I hope it warms up by his Ironman in July!

Half Marathon Training Updates

nwm14

Hello!! I took a little blog break, but I’m back!  Life got busy with our new baby Bella, work and training for the Nike DC Half Marathon!  After SO MUCH SNOW I am finally off the treadmill and outside for most of my runs.  I’ve been pretty good about staying close to my training plan, but I’ve had to change around what days I run.  Most weeks I’ve been running on both Saturday and Sunday to make up for a missed mid-week run.  Our puppy just wants all of our attention when we come home from school :)

I am about to finish week 6 of my training plan today.  No long run for this week, but I am supposed to “race” a 5K.  I missed a mid-week, so after I finish blogging and pick up this puppy off my lap (aww) I’m going to warm up for 1 mile, “race” my 5K and then cool down with another mile.  I’ve been running most of my long runs with my friend Amy and we’ve been trying to keep around a 9:30 pace.  I’ve been sick the past week, so it has been tough.  I’ve been trying to push it on my shorter runs.  Below are a few mid-week runs from March…

I’ve been aiming for negative splits!  It motivates me to run harder.

This was my run yesterday.  It was SO WINDY!!! I would hit spots where it felt like I had a parachute on my back!  I didn’t pay attention to my watch too much because I was trying to stay comfortable in the wind, but I should have ran my 3rd mile faster to keep the negatives.  Oh well!

Now onto the important stuff – my baby!  She is SO sweet.  We’ve been taking puppy classes at PetSmart and she graduates next weekend!  She is pretty good with her tricks and potty training.  We are still struggling with some biting when we are playing with toys and she gets our hands.  She also went through a phase where she was scared to go outside.  I think all the snow melted and she could see everything so she would go the bathroom and run straight back to the door.  We’ve been taking her farther away from the house and working on walking outside.

The weather was great yesterday (besides the wind)! We went over to my parents and Colby, my Mom, Bella and I walked almost a mile to their park!  We were so proud!

My Mom talked me into this one…. a JOGGING STROLLER for pets!  This will be for the summer when we take her to Lake Placid, NY for Colby’s Ironman!  We are taking her with us, and I think this will really help out on race day when we are outside all day.  I’m hoping she will like it enough for me to take her on runs too!

We love our little girl.  She is over 3 lbs now! For more pictures/videos of tricks… go to my Instagram :)

PS this is my 300th post on my blog! woo hoo!

Lake Placid, NY Trip – Ironman!

Screen shot 2013-08-05 at 8.07.41 AM

Last Monday morning, Colby, Amy, her husband Matt and I drove to Lake Placid, NY so the boys could sign up for the 2014 Ironman!

Colby and Matt competed in the half Ironman – Eagleman this past June and Colby completed Ironman Lake Placid in 2010.

What is an Ironman?

Lake Placid is a “full 140.6″ triathlon – the longest distance triathlon.  If you ever see a “140.6″ sticker on the back of someone’s car, it’s for the Ironman! 70.3 is the half Ironman distance.

Originally, Colby made plans to go to Lake Placid so he could sign up for the race.  You have to sign up a year in advance and there are only 3,000 spots.  This year, Ironman opened up a group deal online the Friday before the race.  If you signed up for Syracuse, NY half Ironman 70.3 and Lake Placid Ironman together, you could get in early online.  Colby and Matt both decided to do this so they could secure their spot.  They wanted to do a half Ironman leading up to the big race, and this one will fit into their training plan.

We decided to still go to Lake Placid even though they were signed up for the race.  Lake Placid is beautiful and the guys were happy to ride part of the race course.

We got our hotel taken care of for next year’s race because they were starting to sell out!  We are making a vacation of it and it will be nice to run and bike in this beautiful area.

The town is really cute and surrounds Mirror Lake.  The actual Lake Placid is close by, but is a bigger body of water.  The race swim takes place in Mirror Lake.

This was on the beach area around Mirror Lake.  The guys decided to go for a quick swim after their long bike ride.
