Christmas Break and Happy 2014!

Hello!  I didn’t post over my holiday break, but I really enjoyed some time off from work and spending time with family.  We ended up going away the day after Christmas with my parents and had a mini vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Two good 5 milers before Christmas!  The one above was with Amy and the one below was with Colby Christmas Eve morning.  I am trying to push myself to run outside in the cold more often.

My favorite … sushi when we were on vacation.  It was so good!

I bought this spiral slicer at William Sonoma on vacation because I found this zucchini noodle recipe.  I made it with sauteed onions, mushrooms, chunky tomato sauce and turkey meatballs.  It was amazing and was like ratatouille pasta!  I’ll be making it again soon and post how I made it.

I felt completely gross after vacation, so I’ve been trying to eat healthier and this has always been my favorite salad.  Spinach, roasted beets, avocado, pistachios, goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette.  So good.

2014 Goals

  • Run more often – (only 460 miles in 2013, I want it to be higher this year!)
  • Get AIM 1 certified in BODYPUMP
  • Eat Clean – less processed food
  • More fruits and vegetables – especially beets, avocados, kale, spinach and raw ginger root
  • PR at Nike Half – again???

I’ve been looking at juicers a lot and borrowed my friend’s this week.  I’m not sure if I want one yet, because they are kinda big and I already have a Vitamix.  I think the Vitamix could handle raw beets and ginger, so I might give it a try in the blender too.  I found this on Pinterest on juicing with a blender.  I know it’s not the same, but I think it would be okay for me.  I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead over the break and thought it was great – but I won’t be juice fasting.  Just adding the fruit and veggie juice in it in, especially between meals. Beets are high in iron too, which I worry I don’t get enough of because I’ve never eaten red meat.

Polyvore

How did I not get into Polyvore earlier??  I downloaded the app on my phone last week and it is so much fun!  I’ve seen it on Pinterest, but never really tried it out until now.

I bought a dress and jacket similar to this at Target when I was back to school shopping.  Yes, even teachers go back to school shopping!  We’ve had teacher in-service the past two days and tomorrow is our first day with students!  I’ve been working out by teaching BODYPUMP a lot by myself.  I am kind of the substitute teacher at our gym for pump and it is great!  I’m hoping to start running again next week once I get into a routine with school!

Our Thanksgiving

No “turkey trot” for Colby and I today, but he went on a 35 mile bike ride this morning.  I did some yoga while I prepared a few food items.

 

I used this Barefoot Contessa recipe for sweet potatoes and it was easy and great.  I used soy milk instead of heavy cream and earth balance in place of regular butter.  It turned out great! (I forgot to take a picture)

 

I also made William Sonoma’s Pumpkin Pecan Dessert Squares.  The pumpkin butter is from William Sonoma and so is the recipe paper.  These are really easy to make and always turn out great.  I also used soy milk/earth balance for this recipe.

 

 

I found this idea of a turkey veggie tray on Pinterest.  This is my kind of turkey and it was a big hit!

 

Also… I signed up for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in DC!  It is a lottery system, so I really hope I get in!  I think I find out in a few weeks.  I would be really excited to train for a half this spring.  I would really like to start running on a regular basis again!

 

A little expensive for a half marathon, but I would be reaaaallllly happy to get that Tiffany’s necklace at the end for a race medal!!

Going to visit my friend Andrea tomorrow for the weekend! She lives 5-6 hours away, so I’m pretty excited to go and see her new house!  :)

 

Wedding: Rehearsal and Salon

Hi everyone! My swimming lesson went well last weekend with Colby! I actually really enjoyed it and I am planning on going again next weekend.  I also got my hair cut last week (almost 7 inches gone!) and I’m loving the change.  I will post pictures soon.  I really wanted to go even shorter, but my hair dresser was smart and told me to ease into it or I would flip out.  It was a good idea because I was really nervous to as much as I did!

I JUST got all my wedding pictures back from the photographer and I thought I would focus on some wedding reviews this week! I’m feeling better and getting over my cold, so I should have lots of time to go through all the pictures :)

 

Friday – Dress Rehearsal for the Wedding

On Friday, October 5 we had our wedding rehearsal at our wedding venue.  I was SO happy to have the rehearsal where the wedding was going to be the next day.  I took the day off on Friday and was happy to spend it with my friend/bridesmaid Andrea.  She drove over 5 hours the night before to stay with me!

I got this dress a few weeks before the rehearsal from Black House White Market and it was even on sale! I got the purple flower belt there too.  Colby’s dress shirt and tie were from Express Men.

We had the rehearsal outside and had dinner inside the mansion, downstairs in their pub.  It was really nice to just walk inside to have dinner and that it was downstairs in a different area.

Saturday – Hair and Makeup

This was the main hair photo for my wedding hair inspiration!  If you are curious at the other pictures I liked they are on my Wedding Hair Pinterest board.  I knew I wanted to wear my hair up because I almost always wear it down.  Like I said in my last post, I’ve almost always had long hair.  I really let it grow out LONG over the past year so I could have as much as possible to work with for the wedding.  My hair dresser and I decided she could always cut an inch or two off if there was too much, because I have really thick hair.

 

This was my main makeup photo inspiration.  I just LOVED her clean eye with a heavy black winged liner and bright pinky-coral lips.

Amazing makeup artist! My hair ended up perfect and I loved the big braid in the back.  I was so happy with my makeup too and was not used to wearing false lashes.  They really did pull the winged eyeliner look together.
