Things I’m Loving

I’m loving protein pancakes for breakfast.  I’ve been mixing the banana, egg white, protein powder mixture ahead of time and keeping it in the fridge to make in the morning.  Chocolate is delicious! Picture is from my Instagram.

The healthy dinners I’ve been making at night.  I’ve been getting better at really planning ahead and this one was my favorite.  Black bean burgers (recipe here) and brussel sprouts.  I’m SO in love with brussel sprouts lately!

My first attempt at protein cookie dough balls.  They started off very dry and were falling apart, but after I put them in the fridge they were great.  I want to try a different recipe and see what I like the best.  They taste great and I’ve been pinning recipes on my Pinterest board found here.

Orange banana vanilla smoothies!  1 orange, half a banana, vanilla protein and vanilla almond milk.

Loving that I didn’t completely freak out over this.  I must not have put the lid on the whole way and I turned it up too much, hit start and the lid blew off.  Hot tomato soup everywhere! I was okay and most of the soup survived.  My favorite tomato soup recipe found here.

I’ve been setting my alarm 30 minutes earlier every weekday to workout.  Nothing crazy, but yoga or some of the Tone It Up videos that aren’t going to get me too crazy sweaty!  I shower, but hate to wash my hair in the mornings!

I keep my yoga mat, 5 lb weights and iPad in my bedroom so I just roll out of bed and workout right there.  Colby has been getting up early in the morning to swim or ride his bike trainer to train for his Ironman.  I bought the Tone It Up Beach Babe 2 DVD and I love the 9 workouts.  I got the digital copy, so it is on my iPad and there is a mixture of 20, 30 and 40 minute workouts. The one HIIT intense 40 min. workout is tough and I did it yesterday for the first time.  I really liked it, but I’m not sure I could get myself to do it in the morning!

I was going to run a 5K race yesterday, but it snowed and I didn’t want to risk falling.  I ran a quick 2 miles Thursday afternoon outside before teaching BODYPUMP.  I forget how great it feels to run outside… because the weather has been so bad lately!!

Last thing, I love that my hair is getting longer and I can do more with it!  I cut it above the shoulder a year ago and I didn’t realize how long it would take to grow back out!  I liked it short (I’m a long hair girl!) but I felt like I could only keep it straight.  I love playing with different size curling irons and I’m really happy with my medium length hair!

No Excuses Summer!

(I didn’t go grocery shopping yet, so lots of smoothies! This one is light chocolate silk soy milk, chocolate Vega protein, PB2 powder, frozen strawberries and banana.)

Colby and I just got back from Disney World!!  We had an amazing 8 day trip to the happiest place on earth and it was great!  Since he just finished his half Ironman on June 9th, he was really looking forward to this vacation.  I was a little nervous thinking about this trip and how we decided to go with the meal plan, but I ate really healthy most of the time (besides the desserts that came with every meal!) and we did TONS of walking! I even wore my Garmin a few days and was shocked to find out we walked probably 7-9 miles almost every day! I’ll post more about Disney later and how to survive it without gaining weight because I think I even lost a pound or two.  Who would have thought??

(These watches are getting a workout this summer!!)

While we were in Disney, Colby and I talked about our fitness plans non-stop.  He is ready to get back to his triathlon training right away and has a sprint tri coming up in 3 weeks.  I decided I have NO EXCUSES not to exercise all the time and eat healthy this summer!  Besides private music lessons and teaching BODYPUMP, I have a very free schedule and I should take advantage of all that time!  I really want to run more often, even if it is short mileage.  I’ve ran 3 miles the past two days and I’ve been trying to memorize the new BODYPUMP 86 choreography. I also took a 30 minute spin class followed by CXWORX at the gym before our trip and loved it so that is on my schedule too!

More about Disney World later… ahh it really is the happiest place on earth!   :)

Triple Workout Day

Summer has officially begun for me and I am loving it!  Colby did his half Ironman this past weekend and rocked it!  I will post tomorrow all about his race.  We got back yesterday and I only ran 3 miles on the treadmill at the hotel once.  I had plenty of time today to workout… so that is what I did!

(PM workout)

I asked Colby to run 3 easy miles with me outside.  His legs were sore but he was okay going slow with me.  We walked a little too.  Tonight, I did something I haven’t done in a longgggg time… I went to a SPIN class!!  Two years ago I tried to get into spin, but I just couldn’t.  My new gym has all  RPM (Les Mills spin class) and they have a 30 minute class two times a week.  Tonight they had the 30 minute class and CXWORX was right afterwards.  I really loved it!!  30 minutes was just enough, because I’m not sure I could have done much more tonight.  Spin is just so hard when you aren’t used to it!  I loved that it was in a separate spin room and it just had such a cool atmosphere.  I really liked the instructor too!

I made an awesome smoothie this morning after my run.  I haven’t made a smoothie in a few weeks so it tasted great.  Chocolate Vega protein, Silk almond milk, PB2 powder, spinach, frozen banana, frozen strawberries and chia seeds! YUM!

Big Ironman review tomorrow! :)

Preparing For My Big Les Mills Weekend!

photo

Tonight was my first time on stage teaching BodyPump!! My new gym (I love it there!) had a 6:30-7:30 BodyPump class tonight.  All of the instructors have told me I should try to teach my assigned tracks at a class before the training weekend.  I love knowing most of the instructors and everyone is so nice!

The instructor tonight had me shadow her tonight on stage and I taught my tricep and bicep tracks!  Everything went so well and the only weird thing was dealing with the microphone! I forgot that most of my tricep track has me laying down on the bench so I wasn’t used to dealing with the microphone.  I’m sure I will have lots and lots of practice this weekend!

I couldn’t believe how many calories I burned tonight!  This might have been my highest burn for just doing BodyPump.  Sometimes I burn more if I run before class, but I didn’t run tonight.  I think I was nervous and maybe my heart rate was a little higher than normal?

hr

Can you believe I got up to 185?!?! It was during lunges, of course!  Those jump squats are killer and always get me into the 170’s, but tonight I put both risers under the bench and it was extra high.  At the gym, I’ve been putting one riser under the bench and at home my bench is different and not as high.  I figured I might as well put both risers under the bench tonight because I’m sure I will have to do it that way all weekend!

I ordered some new protein because I was almost finished my other Vega protein.  I’ve been trying to make a protein smoothie after tough BodyPump workouts.  I had the Vega Energizing Smoothie mix before in chocolate and I really liked that.  This time, I ordered their performance protein that is the third step in their nutrition program (recover).  I got this one because it had almost double the protein for the same amount of calories.  Since I don’t really eat meat (just seafood) I really need to watch my protein intake, especially with all this BodyPump training!  I tried this tonight after my big class and it was good!  I just had it with some Light Chocolate Silk Soy Milk and PB2 powder.  Yum :)

I’ll try to post this weekend, but I might be too tired Saturday night! Hopefully I will do a big review on my Les Mills BodyPump training Monday or Tuesday after I’ve recovered!
