Mini Vacation

Saturday Workout: BodyPump!!! (1 hour)

Sunday Workout: off day!!

I was so happy to get to my BodyPump class Saturday morning! I start my half marathon plan this week, and my goal is to still take BodyPump 2 times a week.  This was one of my last free weekends without any plans and Colby and I decided to take a trip to his old college Saturday. Even though it was over 100 degrees, it was so nice seeing his campus and meeting friends!

People swimming in the river. We were melting trying to walk around so I could see the nice running paths and sandy beach area!

Love the panoramic function on my Sony camera!

On our way home today, we stopped to visit my friend Matt and went to lunch for his birthday!

Matt just got a Garmin 405 for his birthday and now we are Garmin twinsiessss :)

He is currently training for his first half marathon that will be a trail race in Pittsburgh!! Matt is using the half marathon plan that was in this month’s Runner’s World.

Yum yum yum! We started off with oysters on the half shell and followed with sandwiches. Colby and I feel like we need to do a few extra workouts this week to make up for all the food we ate this weekend!

Ready to start my half marathon plan this week! Even though it starts out with some short runs, it will be perfect for me.  I have not focused on running after the full marathon in May, and have not been running over 20 miles a week in awhile. This plan should get me back into the swing of things and still allow me to cross train with BodyPump class and yoga!

Switching my Tuesday run this week to Monday because I have will be busy all day Tuesday with work!

I should eat before I run…

Sunday Workout: 6 miles (most of it running, some walking)

The Garmin stats…

I was doing really well trying to stay around a 9:20 pace for the beginning of this run. By the time I reached 3 miles it was sunny and I stopped at a water fountain for a quick break. Then I felt super light headed and ended up taking a little break under some shade. I wanted to run early this morning, but I was being lazy and pushed it until later in the morning, without eating breakfast. I almost ALWAYS eat breakfast before running. I had a cup of coffee this morning and waited way too long before going outside.

I walked 1/2 a mile of mile 4 and the last .25 of mile 6. My average running pace would have been around 9:25 because I was almost always under 9:30, even at the end. So… overall I was happy with it but mad that I didn’t eat something.

I also noticed that the elevation was a little different from South Carolina beach elevation…

Elevation from running at the beach…

Around my neighborhood…

Yeah… even though it was at least 10-15 degrees cooler here, the elevation was tougher.  Today’s run was my 6-mile loop that I used over and over when training for the Pittsburgh Marathon. I haven’t used this loop in awhile, so it wasn’t as boring as it was in April when I would do it 3 times in a row…

Some pictures from our last night at the beach:

Oh yes… all you can eat crab legs again :)

I ate 3 plates of crab legs before hitting up the desserts…

Colby got told by the waitress he looked like Ben Affleck. He gets told this all the time when we are out and I’m pretty sure it made his day.  I definitely don’t look like Jennifer Garner :(

Seriously, chick flick at its best :)

Last Day at the Beach

Workout: 4 mile run: 36 min, 14 sec (9:03 pace)

mile 1- 9:17, mile 2-9:04, mile 3-9:03, (took a quick walk break) then mile 4-8:48 :)

I was VERY happy with my run this morning! Colby was nice enough to run with me again and I really pushed myself at the end. The treadmill is definitely helping me hold a faster pace outside and I am going to keep using it to help my speed. It wasn’t as sunny this morning, but it was still crazy humid. I am hoping to keep this up and hopefully hold this pace for a 5 miler. I know this might not seem that great to many of you, but for me it is really great! I was stuck in such a “pace rut” during the marathon training and after that I need to shock my system. It hasn’t been my goal for a long time to change my pace because I stuck with 9:40-9:50 for the marathon and trained at that pace for nearly all of my runs.

Really sweaty and proud of my run this morning :) Wearing my super soft 26.2 t shirt from the Pittsburgh Marathon Expo!

Today was our last day at the beach! I am not looking forward to cleaning and packing tonight. The weather was perfect today!! We got out there a little earlier today so it wasn’t so hot and we could have stayed out all day.  I felt the sun getting to my skin and knew it was time to go inside!

My pink chair in the middle of the uncrowded beach today

Happy on the beach :) My BIC band got quite the workout this week! I wore it almost everyday at the beach and when I ran!

Mini Golf

Thursday Workout: ?? Yoga ??

Not sure what activity I will do in this heat! We slept in this morning and went to the beach later today (around 11:30) and stayed until 1:30. It was crazy hot this afternoon and we woke up too late to run in the morning. I want to wake up nice and early tomorrow so I can get another 4 mile run in then hit the beach for our last day of vacation!

Last night, Colby kicked my butt at mini-golf…

Pink golf ball of course!

Much better at mini than I am

View from up high… the weather was soooo much nicer last night!

Colby wins!

Looking nice and sweaty after being outside!

After golf, we went to the grocery store for the 1,000th time this week.  Seriously, every night we go get more food. I guess we eat a lot? I found a million different flavors of So Delicious coconut “ice cream” and was soooo excited! I’m not huge on ice cream, probably because it always makes me sick but I had to get the cookie dough flavor! I ended up picking out all of the cookie dough balls last night and eating some ice cream. I think I like the chocolate flavor better than vanilla!

I don’t want today to be an “off day” on my exercise log, so I am determined to do yoga and some push-ups/sit-ups or something! I know most of you (if there is anyone out there reading) never check my “exercise log” on the top of my blog, but it has really motivated me.  I love filling out my exercises for the day and seeing what I have done for the week!

Road Trip

Friday morning, Colby and I set out for our 10-hour drive to Myrtle Beach, SC.  We left around 8:00 with a packed car to avoid Baltimore and D.C. traffic.  I packed way too much the night before and had 2 suitcases full of bathing suits, sun dresses, workout clothes and sneakers.  Oh, and I had to make sure to bring my foam roller!  My right hamstring has been SO tight since my Thursday run and BodyPump class.  My body really needed a break and I am planning on taking Friday and Saturday off running and foam rolling as much as possible.  I used to worry about tight IT bands from running and lately it seems like my hamstrings are what tighten up the most.  I think this might be from the cross-training and weights, but I feel so much stronger running hills.  I can’t wait until I start a specific half-marathon plan for a race I am looking at in October…

We drove until 12:30 and stopped at a Ruby Tuesday’s for lunch.  I was seriously craving their salad bar and it looked so much better than stopping at a fast-food place!

I had two plates of spinach, edamame, mushroom, egg, cheese, cucumber, sunflower seeds, croutons and ranch.  Not the healthiest salad, but it tasted soooo good.

My salad also came with three sides and I ordered sweet potato fries, squash spaghetti and sugar snap peas.  Some of it was a little over-cooked, so I didn’t finish it all and went back for more salad!

We finally arrived to SC around 6:00 (we made really good time!) and unpacked. We were both so tired and could have just fell asleep, but we wanted to get something to eat and drive around a bit to see what was close.

Our condo is really nice with a full kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and back balcony on a golf course. Way too big for the two of us, but we found it through a friend at work for a great price.  The owner uses it for golf trips and rents it out the rest of the summer.  I’m really happy to have a full kitchen so we can make breakfast and lunch.

The view of the pool from our balcony.

Lots of these guys hiding outside.

Workout essentials and the important food…hopefully the protein powder will get some use this week!

Happy to find some workout equipment at the pool house near our condo. Treadmills, stair climber, bike and weight machines.  It has been about 100 degrees and I really don’t want to run in that kinda of heat.  Hoping to use this small “gym” and the nearby Gold’s Gym a few times this week.

Last night we were so tired, but we made a trip to “Joe’s Crab Shack” for huge steamed crab buckets!

We always see the commercials on tv for this restaurant, but we don’t have one near us.  We both got a mix of snow, dungeness and king crab legs.  It was SO good…Colby had a special BBQ sauce on his that was fantastic and I had a garlic rub on my crab bucket.

Colby and I after a long day of driving… sweaty and full of steamed crabs :)

Now Colby and I are getting cleaned up after a day at the beach and going to dinner.  Hopefully we will fit in some running and workouts this week so you don’t have to just look at pictures of us hanging out at the beach and eating!
